Why Certified Technicians and Sales Consultants are So Important

Posted in: Community Resources

I wanted to take some time to talk about the service and maintenance of your mobility products, such as wheelchair lifts and wheelchair vans.  All reputable manufacturers, such as VMI, require the dealers who sell their products to attend a three day training on how to best service and sell their products.  If dealers are not up to date with their technical certification, they will be penalized by the manufacturer (penalties vary by manufacturer).

The reason why we stress this training as manufacturers and NMEDA (National Mobility Equipment Dealer Association) members is two fold: To provide our customers with outstanding customer service and to elevate the level of dealer performance to reliably meet consumers’ transportation needs in the safest manner possible.

What does this mean to you?  When you purchase a mobility device from a reputable dealer, and reputable manufacturer you can be rest assured that you and your family are in good hands.   There are many options out there for you when you are researching wheelchair vans and lifts.  Something that is as important as the product you are purchasing is how the product will be serviced both at home and when you are on the road.  Mobility solutions are meant to get you on the road to travel and experience the freedom of the road.  Here are some questions to ask when looking to purchase wheelchair lifts and wheelchair vans:

How will the product be serviced; both at home and on the road?

    1. If you are given a vague answer and not a specific location, this may be a red flag.  Most manufacturers have a dealer locator so when you are on the road, you can simply access their dealer locator and enter in a zip code to get a list of authorized service centers.
    2. Does the Manufacturer / Dealer have current certification on the products they are selling?  (all attendees of training classes get certifications they can show to you)
    3. Does the Manufacturer or Dealer have 24/7 support for the product they are selling?
