Travis “Jigsaw” Wyatt
Operations Specialist First Class Travis “Jigsaw” Wyatt was injured during the July 2020 explosion aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard. Though assigned to the USS Fitzgerald docked next door, the percussive blast threw him into a bulkhead, resulting in multiple injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Following that life-altering event, Travis faced an additional four-year journey navigating complex and progressive symptoms, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of ALS in May 2025.
In 2021, while still on active duty, Travis joined Navy Wounded Warrior where he was introduced to adaptive sports, an experience that quickly became central to his recovery and renewed sense of purpose. By 2022, he earned selection to Team Navy and made an immediate impact, capturing a gold medal in 18-meter seated compound archery during his rookie season at the DoD Warrior Games, while also medaling in cycling and swimming. He returned in 2023 earning medals across multiple events, including wheelchair rugby, and went on to represented Team USA at the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany later that same year.
Since discovering archery, Travis has rapidly advanced at the national level, earning top finishes in USA Archery competitions and capturing another gold medal at the 2024 DoD Warrior Games. Competing in the Para W1 compound division, he continues to pursue a spot on the U.S. Para Archery National Team where he aims to take his skills around the globe.
“I started Archery in April 2022 at the Navy Team Trials in Coronado CA while I was still Active Duty. I found that Archery was the sport that allowed my mind to settle and focus, in turn, giving me a purpose after my injury. I’m incredibly grateful to my wife, Teea, and our children for their support.”
Despite his challenges, Travis has continued to compete at a high level and inspire others through his perseverance, grit, and unwavering commitment to moving forward!
